"How dismal..." The Quincey heiress sighed, brilliant emerald eyes falling on the pedantic buzz of life in Karakura Town. To an outside observer, even the bustling districts of Karakura seemed commonplace. "Why on earth would Thermidor chose to settle here?" Her final word dripped with distane. She was already regretting her choice to settle here.
Little did she know, Karakura Town, for whatever reason, was a premier destination for paranormal activity. Hollows and Shinigami alike roamed the streets almost as often as human residence, and "super powered" teenagers seemed to run amok at the local high school. Of course, all of these things would be found out after some exploration, but for now, the seemingly unremarkable hamlet provided little in the area of excitement for Lily.
Vaguely feline optics lazily scanned the town square from a park bench from where she decided to keep watch for something to do. Perfect posture contorted her body to appear as if she was posing for a portrait. Hands remained folded gently in her lap while her left leg was tucked slightly behind her right. Another exasperated sigh would slide from her lips after what seemed like an eternity of fruitless observation. "Honestly, I simply do not understand the appeal of this place." [/blockquote]

It was about that time to put on a show for the neighbors, leaving his humble abode -- a small apartment in the river district, and acting like he was attending classes at the local university. Of course, it was all a cover, he had long abandoned any sort of colloquial schooling -- there was much better things to learn of -- much more serious things to experience.
The Town Square was as dismal as ever, the hustling and bustling of the local folk plain and uninteresting. He walked the streets without a care in the world, it was unlikely for a hollow to strike in such an open area at such a time of day. However, today their was a familar reiatsu, one he had encountered before. This person made no attempt to hide their prescense, spewing spiritual energy into the world without much care.
He had done well to 'stalk' her as she walked about, staying just out of view, following her down the twists and bends of the towns roads, only speaking once they had gotten to the more crowded part of the Town Square.
"Just what are you doing here, Lily?" He finally spoke.

A yawn was stifled with an open hand while her back arched as she attempted to combat her utter boredom. Her eyes had begun to glaze over; identifying passerbys as faceless humans. Her mind was growing dull, and her consciousness was descending into a daydream. However, she soon was interrupted by the mention of her name. Emerald optics snapped to attention, and a devious grin curled her lips once she realized just who called her name.
"I could ask you the same question, Thermidor." She responded as she swept a stray tendril of her golden mane back behind her shoulder. "Honestly. Why would such a great warrior leave the Family Compound just to settle in this ghastly little town? Surely the elders expected more from their most prized student." The young woman would rise from her bench, standing just a 2 inches shorter than her cousin. All the while, her devilish smirk never left her face. She had waited years for the chance to confront Thermidor outside the compound, and she would relish every moment of their first "chance" encounter.

"You'd be surprised the odd peak of activity that has been here as of late."
His arms crossed eyes closing more lazily than out of any fatigue, as he leaned against a building adjacent to the former standing point. He looked around a bit, making sure there was no person paying much attention to their conversation, one would be surprised at how well people could mask their reiatsu. With a nod, he decided it was okay to continue the conversation.
"There is now about three hollows about, and a gillian -- yes a gillian. I've seen natural born humans with unnatural abilities, and several shinigami. Something is up here, something is definitely going to happen here soon. "
He awaited her initial surprise and response, who would have thought the small town would be such a center of activity, though that may have been the problem all along. Such a small town was easy pickings for hollows and the like. As much as he didn't want to admit it he was happy she had came. With just he here representing the Neo Quincey force he was not sure he would be able to be a prescience. Now, he was sure they would be a force to be reckoned with.

Keeping her mind sharp to her cousins information but her expression aloof, the young woman carefully absorbed the intelligence gathered by her cousin. Apparently hollows were running rampant through the town, and a series of super powered humans had been birthed here. She had no explanation for either, aside from something in the water. Though it seemed that she had her work cut out for her, at least she had found a place to out do her cousin in terms of making a name for herself. After a few moments of silence, the blonde Quincey finally spoke.
"Well. It seems that you've been rather busy. I suppose its good to see that you arn't wasting all your 'talent'". With a light sigh, she went back to watching the city for a few moments. It really was dull, wasn't it? Seeing as Thermidor had been here longer than her, she would ask for a bit of advice. "So. What do you do for fun around here?" She pondered, here face portraying a light expression of disgust by the sheer boredom of the city. [/blockquote]

"Fun?" He responded, almost offended. "There is not real fun to be had here besides felling the Hollow menace here."
His hand, palm up, pointed about rather randomly, as if showing her the city.
"There isn't much more to see."
Pocketing his hands, he began to walk off, expecting her to follow. He thought as he did, of what perhaps there was to do that a girl would enjoy, or at least more specifically: what his cousin would enjoy.
"There are some places for shopping, I suppose."
Again a shrug, before continuing his pace, looking about aimlessly. He hadn't expected her to come here, and hadn't nearly been ready to 'entertain' her as she expected. He knew all too well that her apparent 'bitchyness' stemmed for her hatred of him due to his supposed skill and familial status -- things he himself couldn't help. Nevertheless, he continued his train of thought, attempting to think of something interesting to do. She was family after all.

"Thats unfortunate." Lily sighed, wondering just how she would occupy her time in this podunk little town. Though she had access to her families vast fortune, it was apparent that she would have trouble spending it around here. Following her relative as he began to stroll down the streets of the busiest section of the town, she listlessly scanned the storefronts for anything appealing for them to do. Proceeding in vein for what seemed like an eternity, blinding neon lights and pulsating beats of over sized speakers caught her (and frankly every other passerby's) attention.
Though most people her age and of her status would scoff and continue their trek, Lily had a strange desire to venture into the building labeled "Arcade." Living a life of refinement, the Quincey weren't allowed many electronic entertainment devices and were certainly not permitted to venture into such a abhorred establishment. A mischievous glint glistened in her emerald eyes as a quick hand took hold of her confounded cousin's hand, practically dragging him into the arcade.
The near deafening volume of the games pounded into her ears, and their brightly lit display screens glowed with whimsical mystery. Standing in awe for a few moments as she gazed on the new world, a strange contraption in the back of the room caught her attention. Turning out to be the source of most of the noise pollution within the room, a tall machine with large speakers on either side emitted annoying yet catchy techno tracks. Bright neon letters titled the machine "Step Step Convulsion", and for good reason. Players stood on large square pads with four arrows, stomping their feet on tiles corresponding to electronic arrows that ascended on the screen.
A playful smile curled on her lips as she took hold of her cousin again, this time dragging him closer to the large machine. "Can we!?" She asked excitedly, tugging on his shirt in a childish manner. Though she had never played anything like it before, the Quincey training combined with extensive schooling in ballroom dancing lead her to believe that she was a natural. She would have paid for the game herself, but the young woman never carried change around with her. It was improper for a lady to jingle. Tense with anticipation, she awaited her cousin's answer, hoping to best him in the first of many contests.

The blaring sounds of the arcade, immediately audible even from exceedingly farm away alerted him of what was to come. He had been to the arcade before, not for pleasure really, but because of curiosity. Seldom had he actually ever played a game, even after having gone there countless times, even when the purpose was to pass time.
Lily seemed interested in the place due to the fact it held so many electronic devices, something most quincey never saw most of at the compounds. It was for that reason that he decided to humor her, stepping on the game pad for the first game she seemed to want to play.
It hadn't taken long to understand the concept of the game, it was simple really, the directions to what side of the pad to step on came from the top of the screen down. As it came down you were to remember the sequence, and essentially step on the corresponding pad in order, developing a sort of dance sequence as you went. As the game started up he eyed her.
"You ready, Lily?"

With a simple nod, she stepped onto the plastic dance pad. After selecting an upbeat song and a difficult setting, a glowing red button was pressed on the machine to signal that they were ready to play. Loud blasts of bass pulsed through the whole room, the sound waves feeling like punches to the inside of her chest. A heavy electronic beat erupted from the speakers, and flashing lights began to shine from either side of the machine.
"ARE YOU READY!?"
An enthusiastic voice asked; though there was really nothing either of the Quincey could do if they weren't. Suddenly, arrows began to ascend from the bottom of the screen, prompting the beginning of the competition. Allowing her mind to focus on the rhythm of the track while her eyes stayed dedicated to following the arrows, she was able to keep up fairly well with the 150 bpm song. Incoherent lyrics were being shouted by an autotuned singer, rendered further inaudible over the loud stomps being emitted by her boots above the lit up arrows.
Never returning her feet to the center of the pad, Lily appeared to actually be dancing in place. She had watched the people before them on the machine and saw that returning to the center of the pad after each step was a waste of energy. With such a heated rivalry in the works, a small crowd began to gather behind the dueling Quincey. Speculative veterans of the game were eying the match up closely, trying to determine the winner, but other amateurs simply watched for entertainment.

The entire atmosphere of the arcade seemed to change as the machine started up. People began to crowd up around the setup before they even knew who was playing, and if the duo were any good at the game at all. The lights seemed to dim, the lights of the game intensified as he navigated the menus mimicking Lily's settings to make sure the match was as even as possible.
The song seemed to begin with a steady percussive beat, a sort of techno-y drum which held a specific pervasive sound. His heart seemed to pump in relation to the beat as his adrenaline pumped, though he not understanding why he was getting to excited over the mere game. His foot began to lightly tap against the surface as he adjusted his position in the middle of the dance pad, the onlookers too getting into the song bopping to the beat.
As the first 'stream' of notes came by his steps felt almost forced, though executed perfectly as far as the game engine was concerned. However, the more steps that he did the more he got 'into' the beat. His body began moving on it's own, seemingly instinctual. The combos racked up; perfect after perfect, and his score sky rocketed. After the first forty-five seconds of the song his score had already surpassed any hi-score that had been achieved in the song's entirety.
It didn't take long before the crowd noticed the particular odd skill of the nubile pair in the game, people taking sides and cheering for their favorite of the two.

Sharp, analytic optics easily kept up with the ascending arrows, and graceful, flowing movements kept her body moving in perfect time with the music. Each step corresponded perfectly with it's neon counterpart, and the longer the song progressed, the higher her combo score rose. Though she wasnt paying attention to her competitors score, she never heard his steps fall out of sync with hers. It had turned into a battle of epic proportions to say the least. Loud cheers could be heard from behind, the pair, cries of support distributed equally among the competitors.
The tempo of the song kept steady, and Lily retained her perfect streak of steps. Though Thermidor and her had different styles, there were times where their bodies moved in sync with each other, creating an interesting mirrored image for small portions of choreography.
Her mind remained completely focused on the arrows, and her body simply reacted to whim of the machine. Everything else had faded from her mind, even the flashing lights just feet from her face. Her flowing, golden mane swirled in her wake as her combo continued to increase. She couldn't fall out of sync now. She couldnt lose this far in after coming so far with perfection. [/blockquote]

The game's musical tempo only increased over time, the arrows seemingly blending in with one another as they came down with ever increasing frequency. The music itself seemed to become louder, the bass and snare overpowering all the other gaming setups in the arcade. There came a brief pause in notes in which he managed to look at Lily's machine, eying her score, exactly the same as his. They had both done completely perfect, never missing a note and executing each step expertly. At the rate at which they were going there would be no clear winner.
Thermidor understood Lily's rivalry with him, and it's significance. If he were to continue winning, there would be a point where she would no longer feel compelled to best him. She would eventually follow him no more. In that respect somewhere within the song he hit an arrow slightly off key producing a "great!" instead of "perfect!", which would in the end mean he would have a slightly lower score and thus lose.
Once the song had ended and the music stopped, he would step off the dance pad before pointing to the screen with a smirk.
"Looks like you won."

The beats pulsed; the lights flashed; the crowd cheered. However, Thermidor somehow found a way to ruin the moment. It was the slightest hesitation noticeable only by someone who was trained in hyper analysis. Though to everyone else it would seem that he had simply missed a step, the young woman saw as plain as day that her cousin had delayed his step on purpose. Holding her disappointment in until the song finished, she continued to execute the choreography with perfect precision.
The track was only a few moments from finishing, and once the music stopped, she turned to Thermidor with a stern expression on her face. "Looks like you won." He said with a smile, sending her over the edge. If looks could kill, the heir to the Maximilian name would have been dead and buried on the spot. She knew too well what he had done, and though her resentment for her relative had faded for the duration of the game, his arrogant grin had reminded Lily just why she despised her cousin.
"Dont do me any favors, Thermidor." She said coldly, dismounting the gaming contraption with a graceful hop. "Ciao." She waved with her back turned to her cousin. The spectators didn't understand why the winner of perhaps the most impressive match they had ever seen was storming off, but a neat path was formed in the sea of bodies for her to make her exit. Rejoining the crowd of people in the streets with a look of disappointment on her face, Lily vanished from sight.

It seems as if a brief underestimation of his cousin had occurred, she noticing his purposeful mistake. His head shook as he seemed to snap at him for it, his arms shrugging some as he looked about, the crowd was just as confused as he was.
"No favors. You just needed some encouragement."
Of course his words fell on death ear, she have been long gone as he spoke, almost mumbling to himself. With a brief sigh he abandoned the arcade and walked in the direction of his home. She'd be back.
