It was certainly strange, that a member of the 4th Division, whose specialty revolved around healing the sick and wounded, would be sent down into the land of the living when nobody specifically needed the touch of a cleric. However, as I was told, everyone in the Gotei 13 was expected to be able to fight and defend themselves, and that meant training in all sorts of scenario. As of right now, I could honestly say that I was not too keen on being in this place; the lack of reiryoku within the land made me almost feel like I was absolutely nothing.
The scenery was at least moderately acceptable, with a soft blue sky forming the backdrop while puffy white clouds floated lazily to block out the harshest of the sun's ultraviolet rays. Patrolling the area that I had been assigned, the small river park where many humans seemed to enjoy being around, I had my senses working in overdrive, trying to figure out if anyone or anything would soon be in danger.
It was then that I felt something... peculiar. I hadn't ever experienced its' taste before, and that sent a shiver down my spine. I had felt the presence of Hollow before; and I had even met a Quincey once. But this... this was something unique. Something more? Or something less? I couldn't quite tell, but my eyes were now in full alert, looking for whatever could have caused such a disturbance in my sensory fields.

“God damnit” He said aloud, his right leg angrily kicking a nearby stone. Who the hell does that old man think he is, giving me a failing grade for that essay assignment?! It was annoying really, to receive a failing grade on the very first task given to him this year. Things weren’t looking up for Jin academically, so it was a damn good thing he didn’t give a shit, despite his temper having risen.
School was out and Jin was taking a longer route to his home, his lazily gazing past the boring civilians hanging around the park. Tch. The boy would snarl as he lifted his headphones above his head and increased the volume of his music, his scarf and loose attire fluttering about in the wind. His eyes shut as he walked along the path, loosing himself into the deafening music as he remained oblivious to the ominous feeling hovering about in the air.

It was as I scanned the surroundings for something out of place that my eyes fell upon perhaps the strangest looking human being that I had ever seen. The man wore a red shirt, with a black jacket resting over it, while a scarf hung around his neck. Within the realms of Seireitei, the scarf would have marked him as a member of a Royal House, should they have chosen to don it, but here within the Human Realms, I wasn't exactly sure what a scarf meant. It could be... just about anything, as I came to realize with a sudden start.
Those items that humans called Headphones were placed precariously over his ears; items that blared music through a digital recording device that the humans were all so fond of. They weren't that widely known, or even liked, within the realms of Seireitei due to their ability to completely cancel out any outside noise: if you were needed and missed a call because you had those headphones on, the amount of trouble that you'd be in would be tremendous. For the first time in my life, I felt a little pang of jealously ring through my soul, and I found that I really wanted to listen to the headset.
It was a shame, then, that the human would never see me, garbed within the black robes that marked me as a Shinigami, because if he never saw me, then I would never be able to put on that headset.
