6:2 - Session Incomplete
Rika Takuya sat quietly in the shadows, shifting beneath the awning of an elegant store. It sold sunglasses and other head-wear. He had absolutely no interest in anything they were selling, so he simply sat and awaited for something to happen. It was that kind of day, when it seemed like sunset would take forever to arrive. It never came when you waited for it, and yet there was nothing to do but keep waiting for it to come. Takuya sighed. He didn't even have a patrol assignment today. He missed that about the Seventh Division. There was no shortage of excitement, there. It seemed like Thirteenth Division members had a lot of free time on their hands, with which to do whatever came to them. Quite frankly, nothing was coming to Takuya.
It occurred to him that he knew little about the people in his division. He had only ever met one of them, Anzu Aya-sama, a member of one of the Four Noble Houses, the highest of Shinigami royalty, below the Spirit King. She seemed like a nice enough girl, but he didn't get to talk to her for more than a minute. They had been more preoccupied with escaping from Hueco Mundo to really sit down and share anything. He didn't know too many people from the other divisions either. There was Meimu-san, of course, from the Fourth. She was behaving oddly, lately. He couldn't quite figure out why she was acting so cold to him. He heard a slight chuckle from Fuyu no Tsuki. She thought his situation was endlessly funny.
Takuya sighed, standing up. There was one more person he had met recently. A girl, one by the name of Hikari-san. He had known her for only long enough to spar, briefly, and he hadn't gathered much from that little incident, other than that she seemed to have a bit of a flirty personality. He hadn't minded that, but he wished he could have spent a little more time with her. It was rare to find friends out here, much less a sparring partner. He looked around the way, watching the people shuffle by. Maybe he'd find something to do out there if he went looking for it...

Light footfalls carried Hikari forwards through the streets of Seireitei. Aparently like many other Shinigami, Hikari had the day off and was aimlessly wandering through the business district. The merchants boasted of their high quality wares from awning covered stalls, waving colorful fans and shouting sale items to anyone willing to listen. Though there seemed to be no shortage to the worthless trinkets being pawned, there seemed to be a severe lack of the one thing Hikari was actually interested in purchasing. Food.
Since the majority of the citizens of Seireitei didn't need sustenance, restaurants or even snack stands were few and far between. Her stomach grumbled a bit and a scowl contorted her face to an unhappy expression. "Foooood." She moaned to herself, scanning the street for any morsel that could slake her hunger. However, instead of a snack, her eyes settled on a familiar face.
"What are you doing here, Taku-kun?" She asked from behind the Shinigami. Though she still wanted to grab a bit to eat, she supposed she could afford a detour to torment the 7th division reaper for a while. [/blockquote]

Takuya's eyebrow perked as a familiar voice entered his ears. How the hell did she do that? One moment he had spared an idle thought to Hikari-san, and here she was, strolling doing the road as though she had plotted it. If she did, she couldn't have plotted it any better. He glanced up at the girl, running his eyes from her feet all the way up to her eyes as she came into view. It had been a long while since he had last seen Hikari, but she certainly hadn't lost any of her beauty, or the casual attitude that seemed halfway between elegance and laziness. It was oddly appealing and annoying at the same time. He waved at her nonchalantly, smiling in greeting.
“Not much, Hikari-san.” He shrugged, meeting her dark eyes with his own. “Day off, nothing to do. Looking around for either some food or some entertainment.” Unfortunately, that pretty much summed up his day. He was going to need to acquire a new hobby, or his time in the Thirteenth Division was going to become exceptionally painful. Worse than that, as a seated officer, it was his duty to partially participate in the paper-work. As a fifth seat, that amounted to minimal work, but it was still a pain in the ass. He and paper didn't agree, especially when it mocked him with official looking writing.
“What are you doing, then?” He returned her question, stretching out slightly. His muscles had gotten sore, sitting quietly on the ground, waiting for something interesting to happen. Hopefully, Hikari would be doing something at least vaguely interesting. Anything to get him off of the ground. He didn't want to keep sitting there. It was starting to become unbearably boring. He straightened out, waiting to see what she had to say...

"Oh, pretty much the same." She said with a nonchalant tone. She was just as bored as he was, although the dreaded cloud of paperwork that haunted Takuya had yet to settle over Hikari. Just as she had about forgotten why she was wandering through the streets, a grumble erupted from her stomach. Though she might have been embarrassed if this was their first encounter, she had already met this Shinigami and her hunger had overpowered her shame.
"Actually, I've been looking for something to eat, but I can't find anyplace that even offers food, much less anything eatable." With a frown on her face, she clutched her stomach in an attempt to quiet it's rumbling. She had forgotten to grab breakfast that morning, and she didn't have a chance after patrol duty to return for lunch. With a sigh, she looked around the streets again in search of anything that she could devour.
"Wanna grab a bite to eat with me? My treat." She said lazily. She didn't really mean anything by the invitation, she just felt rather fat if she ate alone. If her request was honored, the duo would begin to walk down the streets in search of a food vendor. [/blockquote]

“That sounds alright.” Takuya said, nodding and smiling lightly at her. He brushed himself off, readjusting the sword set at his side. He felt different, walking around with Fuyu no Tsuki. He was drawing different looks from people. Hell, he was drawing looks in the first place, the kind he never used to get as an Eleventh Seat. Being a single-digit officer had it's perks, he guessed. Something about him being the fifth strongest person in the division made people look at him differently. Even so, he was worlds away from the lieutenant or the captain. Hell, even the Third Seat was far stronger than him, as it stood. He still had a lot of training to go.
“So, how have you been?” He asked quietly, walking beside her. “I got transferred to the Fifth Seat of the Thirteenth Division.” He was still curious as to the reasoning behind that. He would find out in time, he supposed. Hopefully, he'd be able to find out if she had grown in strength since their last meeting as well. They had never finished their spar, and now that he thought about it, he was eager to show her a few new tricks that he had learned. He doubted she would be expecting a level sixty-three binding, this time. He let his mind ponder on women and binding spells for a second, before shaking the thought from his mind.
“You know, Hikari-san...” He began, glancing sidelong at her before focusing ahead, his voice neutral. “We never really got to finish our spar, or our conversation.” He was interested in seeing how both of them panned out. He didn't actually know all that much about Hikari, only that she was a master of Hoho. Her speed had been practically blinding to him, last time. Hopefully, he would be able to keep better track of her motions, this time, now that he had gained some power. Still, she had moved with exceptional speed... “I was interested in seeing the end of both of those.”

"Yes, I suppose your right." She said with a glint in her eye. The prospect of battle, even in practice, always got Hikari's blood pumping. "Tell you what, we can finish our spar, but winner buys lunch." Turning to him with a smirk, reiatsu pulsed through her body and in a flash of movement, she would disappear by way of Shunpo. She planned on fighting this battle in a similar manner to their previous encounter, and the first step would be to disappear from sight.
Speeding into a nearby ally way 5 meters deep, she would concentrate on concealing her reiatsu and dart down a perpendicular ally that intersected the one she had entered from. Traveling another 5 meters with sheer footwork, her zanpacto was released from it's sheath and held parallel to the ground in her left hand. Hopefully shrouded by the surrounding reiatsu signatures from civilians and other shinigami alike, Hikari would bide her time in the alley way and wait for Takuya to lose track of her position.
If she had learned anything from their last encounter, it was that the other Shinigami favored using Kido to using his blade. Wave after wave of reiatsu based attack had been thrown at her in the boarder forest, yet only once had he resorted to a physical strike from his zanpakuto. Since she knew that he wouldn't be able to cast a spell if he didn't know where she was, Hikari would hopefully have the upper hand in a few moments when she moved into striking position. However, since he had been promoted to 5th seat, she could only imagine what tricks he had gained from their last encounter. I'll have to be careful if I'm gonna get a free lunch out of this.

“Sure.” He said, groaning internally. This girl was bloodthirsty. She could definitely look into a transfer to the Eleventh Division. He could see the glint in her eye the moment he mentioned sparring. Even practice seemed to get her flowing. It was kind of sexy, in that sort of warrior princess kind of way. Still, he didn't want to pay for lunch, and he certainly wasn't going to get anywhere, be it financially, sexually, or competitively, if he sat there and marveled on the apparent attraction of women who threw themselves headfirst into combat. He tracked her with his eyes, watching her smirk and blur out of his line of site. She was heading for an alley-way, it seemed. He strained to keep his eyes on her as she moved with nigh-untraceable speed.
Rika Takuya kept his mind focused on her, trying to keep track of her reiatsu. He closed his eyes briefly, expanding his spiritual sense. It worked, for only the slightest of moments, until her reiatsu suddenly disappeared from his mind. He snapped his eyes open, cursing. She'd learned to conceal her reiatsu pretty well, and was taking advantage of the nearby signatures to disguise herself. The scion of the Rika clan put a hand on his sword, slowly and delibrately drawing Fuyu no Tsuki out of her sheath. He held her at the ready, looking around him at the various side-alleys and waiting to see where she would emerge from, his mind tuned to any signature of reiatsu she might let slip. He pivotted slowly on the spot, blade held at the ready.
She was a smart one, but he knew these streets just as well as she. There were only so many places she could hide from him. He gripped his sword lightly, preparing a battle plan in his mind. She didn't quite know of everything he had accomplished since their last battle, and he was hoping to blow her away with what he'd learned. Not literally, of course, but impress her just enough. He didn't mind paying for lunch, but this was a matter of pride. Mixing pride, combat, and women, as anyone would know, is a dangerous thing...

With her reiatsu still suppressed, it appeared that Takuya had lost track of her, or at the very least didn't feel the need to chase her down the alley way. With a powerful stomp of her legs, the robed reaper propelled herself to the roof of the nearby building with relative ease despite the 15 foot height. Crouching low to avoid her opponent's gaze should he turn around in search of her location, Hikari awaited the most opportune time to strike, preferably when her opponent had his back turned to her.
If such an opportunity would present itself, another Shunpo would carry her to Takuya's blindside to deliver a strike to the back of his right shoulder with the butt of her sword. Due to her sheer speed, even though she had revealed her reiatsu, it was improbable that her target would be able to react in the short amount of time, much less counter with a strike of his own. Though the force was far from lethal, it would leave a painful sting in it's wake if her attack was successful.
As the blunt edge of the sword (hopefully) made contact with her opponent, she would spin into a crouch in anticipation of a counter attack. Her left (and dominant) leg would sweep outwards as her form twirled counter clockwise in an attempt to use the momentum and her strength to knock Takuya off balance. If her sweep was a success, another shunpo would carry her away into an alley on the opposite side of the street, mirroring her maneuver from the beginning of the fight. Of course, if Takuya's reaction time had improved since their last encounter, she would most likely be in serious trouble of retaliation.

Takuya continued to circle quietly, his eyes watching from all possible angles. He was ready for whatever came, though it seemed like she had some new tricks up her sleeves. Takuya gripped Fuyu no Tsuki, holding her ready for the next motions. He still couldn't feel Hikari's reiatsu, though his senses were still extended all around him. He waited, feeling out with his mind for that single pulse of energy that would highlight her in his senses like the blossoming of a lotus at the turn of the seasons. Finally, it came, and his eyes widened as he felt her gathering her reiatsu for the inevitable motion that would come a split second later.
“Bakudo no Rokujuusan!” He called out, feeling a sharp sting of impact on his back a second later. He stumbled forward slightly, grimacing. That had been a painful blow. He thrust his arm out behind him, pointing at where her legs would be. “Sajo Sabaku.” The kido would erupt out of thin air, fueled by the reiatsu that he funneled in her direction. As she moved to sweep his legs out from under him, she would find the restrictive bindings, formed masterfully from his talented reiatsu, tightening around her arms and legs. He grinned, jumping a step forward and turning to face her. Given the speed at which the events had all transpired, it was unlikely she would be able to evade his spell.
“Not quite good enough, Hikari-chan.” He'd say, smirking playfully as he turned to her, his blade at the ready. If she wasn't there and had escaped, he'd continue to sense out with his reiatsu, looking for the pulse of energy that he knew indicated her preparing a Shunpo. She was fast, extremely so, but there was a pattern to her attack, something he could exploit. If she was there, he would face her, smiling and holding his blade lightly at his side. “You ready for lunch yet?”

As she approached at near untraceable speeds, the Shinigami heard the incantation of a kido spell dance through the air. Nope. she thought simply from behind Takuya. She would be damned if she would be caught so easily. Deciding to forgo the sweep kick she had originally planned, her Shunpo would flicker her out of sight of Takuya earlier than scheduled, moving out of sight and range of his unfinished kido spell. Ducking into the alley way, her reiatsu would be concealed, hiding her from detection once again.
She had already gained the upper hand with the powerful blow to his right shoulder, and she hoped to continue her "hit and run" tactic. Now that she was out of sight of her opponent, she was safe from his binding art, and she hoped to continue this strategy for the remainder of this skirmish. five meters in and five meters south, she was diagonal from her previous location. Taking to the rooftops again was risky, but she woudnt be able to attack effectivly from the streets.
Leaping to the roof of the building, she laid her body flat against the slanted shingled roof to avoid detection as best she could. Peeking her eyes just over the axis of the sloped ceiling, she attempted to keep as much of her body hidden from view. Her zanpakuto was still clutched in her left hand, waiting to be used again. Takuya sighed, sighing that his gambit had failed. She was swift. He needed to keep an eye on her. So she had deprived him of the ability to see her. He closed his eyes, letting darkness consume his sense of sight. He didn't need it anyway, if she was going to hide from him. He reached out with his reiatsu, expanding his senses of touch and hearing. He even extended his nose outward, looking for her scent. He held Fuyu no Tsuki before him, her blade held in both hands now. He kept everything in readiness, prepared for the slightest indication of strike.
He could feel spirits flickering in his mind. There were two routes of attack; the streets, or the rooftops. Logically speaking, she should attack from the streets, now that he was expecting an attack from the rooftops. However, that was common battlefield logic every Shinigami was taught in the academy. However, she would know, then, that he was watching the streets, and should attack from the rooftops again. Such twisted logic, however, could easily be furthered, to justify a route of attack from virtually any direction. It all depended on how well he judged her as a thinker and a strategist. If she was wiser or stupider than he guessed, she would evade his detection.
Takuya inhaled, gathering his breath to himself. He let it fill his being, pervading the silence and his emptied thoughts. He let the meditative awareness rush through him. Sight was merely a distracting illusion. The truth waited in his other senses. The truth waited in sound. The moment would come, if only he just sought it out. The ambient noises drowned out from his mind gradually, clearing the way for the one sound he was waiting for. For a moment, silence filled his ears, sweet and absolute.
Clack.
'Hado no Yonjuu.” Takuya's eyes snapped open. The sound of a Shinigami's thick sandal against the dry hardness of the roof tiles. He thrust his hand outward, his mouth forming words as his off-hand thrust across the bridge of his arm, perpendicular to his other hand. “Daisho.” A column of erupting force would burst out of fingers, aiming for the slanted roof where he heard Hikari's step. At this distance, it would blow the spine of the roof clear off. It wouldn't be enough to seriously hurt her, but it would definitely send her flying off the roof if it connected. He narrowed his eyes, watching the spot where she had been hiding, watching the effect of his attack. Fuyu no Tsuki waited in his hand...

"He has incredible hearing." Hikari thought as he turned to face her, his hand extended and prepared to launch a kido spell at her. As the words left his lips, the Shinigami picked herself up off of the stone shingled roof and flash stepped to the other side of the street. The roof that had once been her sanctuary had now been torn asunder, sent flying through the air and into an alley a few streets away. However, Hikari had no time to mourn the lose of her hiding place. As soon as her tabi touched down on the adjacent roof, another flash step carried her forward; the butt of her sword aimed at ramming into Takuya's stomach.
Her speed was likely too great for Takuya to prepare a counter attack much less a counter spell. Should she make contact, the blunt edge of her ninjato would slam into his abdomen with enough force to knock the wind out of his lungs.
Regardless if her assault hit home, the Shinigami would flip backwards a few times, putting a bit of distance between herself and Takuya. Though she was agile, close range combat wasn't her strong point, so she would stick with the strategy that was working for the time being.
"Getting tired, Taku?" She said with a smile as she brandished her zanpakuto, it's silver steel sparkling in the sunlight. [/font]

He missed. Takuya frowned, disappointed with himself. He knew that Hikari was fast, of course. She was a Death God of the Second Division, specializing in incredible speed and skill in assassination. Still, he should have been able to strike her. But perhaps he was relying too much on Kido. After all, even with incantation bypass, casting spells required certain commitments from the user that were time consuming. No doubt if he were to deliver the full force of his abilities in Kido at her, he could strike her, but he wasn't sure he could restrain the spells enough to avoid killing her if he did that.
She was moving at high speed, one he couldn't hope to match. It was all he could do to follow the motions with his eyes. Perhaps he couldn't effectively counter-attack against her, but there were a few things he could do. He spun his sword in his grip, turning the flat edge to bear, rather than the deadly cutting edge. He tracked her motions expertly, keeping his eye on her as she flitted towards him, moving with speeds he couldn't even fully comprehend. He knew he had no chance of blocking, so he simply let the strike slam into his abdomen, wheezing as it did. At the same time, however, he would be swinging his sword in an arc, attempting to smash the flat of the blade into her side. The strikes would occur nearly at the same time, making it nearly impossible for her to avoid him.
“On the contrary, Hikari.” He said with a smirk, stepping back as she flipped away from him, panting slightly from the pain in his torso. “This is getting me a little excited, actually.” He flicked his sword towards her, the blade sparkling. He still, of course, had Shikai up his sleeve, but he didn't think he needed to use that. The Seventh Division Captain had once told him that it was the height of folly to needlessly reveal his release. A true warrior kept his power in reserve until it was actually needed. “Come on, then, bring it on. See if you can get me again.” He was getting excited. Exhilarated, passionate, even. There was nothing like swords and beautiful women to bring those to things home for him...

“Tch.” He said. A spike of reiatsu nearby caught his attention, as a Tenteikura exploded into existence into his mind. He could hear the words of his lieutenant, speaking clearly into his mind. He was needed, required for a mission into the human world. He sighed, spinning his sword deftly and dropping it into his sheath. He bowed to Hikari, facing her respectfully and frowning wistfully. He straightened, offering her an appologetic smile before turning, and starting to stride away from her, his hands in his pockets.
“We're gonna have to put this on hold, Hikari-san.” He said, shrugging his shoulders. “I'm needed elsewhere, looks like my vacation is over.” He strode quietly through the streets of the Seireitei, before stepping forward once more and disappearing, his legs taking him away into nothingness with the mystic speed of Shunpo. He was gone like the wind, blown away like the mist under it. He kept a hand on Fuyu no Tsuki, ready to carry on. He was needed... There were strong Hollows appearing in the real world...
