The Advent of Advents
Advent Humans are among one of the most mysterious groups of empowered beings in the Living World and the Dead World. Advent Humans are those human beings who have been touched by the powers of other beings around them. To power of reiatsu flows more freely than any other force in the world, and all it takes is a touch from the reiatsu of another being to start the evolution of a human being to a reiatsu-enhanced being. These powers of humans manifest themselves through powers similar to those of Shinigami and Hollows. Advents are far different from Quincy, who are what one might call an entirely human fighting force, trained to manipulate reiatsu without the touch of any external force, in methods exclusive to human beings. Advents, by contrast, are awakened by touch with a Shinigami or Hollow, and this will ultimately affect the path of their powers.
The Awakened Gifts
The powers of Advent Humans are unique to each of them, and develop through special focuses, depending on what creature stimulated their reiatsu. Those Advent Humans touched by the Shinigami develop their powers through instruments such as the zanpaktou, focusing their power into external objects and often creating internal spirits for them, similar to the spirits of zanpaktou. These powers often come to resemble the kido spells of Shinigami.
By contrast, those Advent Humans who develop their powers after contact with a Hollow develop their powers along a far different path. They condense the reiatsu they develop into a body part of their own, usually creating some sort of alternate form for a limb or an added addition that contains much of their power, such as a Hollow’s Mask. These powers are often more reminiscent of those of a Hollow, and develop along routes focused on the use of these enhanced body attributes.
Humans touched by a Vaizard can go either way, depending on how deeply the Vaizard has given in to the inner hollow. Those who come into contact with Quincy are usually taken in to the order and trained as Quincy.
There are also four special moments of advancement for an Advent that drastically changes their abilities and how they manipulate reiatsu in the environment around them. The first of these is Second Advent, gained at Rank Four. Upon achieving Second Advent, the Advent Human gains the ability to gather and condense spiritual particles rather than just manipulate reiatsu as a whole, allowing them access to more precise and advanced manipulations of reiatsu. At this point, the Advent may alter their focus, making it more durable and more convenient.
Third Advent, gained at Rank Eight, is the second level of the Advent Human progression. At the level of Third, the Advent Human gains a much deeper affinity with the creature their powers identify with, be it Shinigami or Hollow. At this point, their abilities can be fit into the same category as those of their chosen affinity, and as a result they gain increased defense against attacks of the same type, as well as the ability to better handle and manipulate the reiatsu of those beings.
Fourth Advent is the next level, gained at Rank Twelve. At the Fourth Advent stage, an Advent’s full power as a spiritual being is unlocked, greatly strengthening their spiritual aura and allowing them to once more expand on their focus.
The final level is Transcendence, achieved at Rank Fifteen. At Advent Achieved, the Advent is given a sort of Bankai-esque ability; they can fully release their focus into a form that greatly increases their abilities and allows them to use more powerful, unique Advent Powers.
Areas of Skill
There are four areas of skill where Advent Humans fight, each being unique and with it’s own benefits.
Martial Arts – Martial Arts is a measure of the ability of the Advent to fight with their hands and feet. Martial arts are a common form of combat for human beings, who are not necessarily intrinsically linked to a weapon as Shinigami or Arrancar are.
Armed Combat – Armed Combat is the ability of an Advent Human to fight with a weapon. Unlike Shinigami or Arrancar, this does not necessarily apply to their ability to fight simply with swords, but with all weapons, except for those that are essential to martial arts. This ability is considerably more uncommon in humans than Martial Arts.
Speed – This measures the speed and reflexes an Advent Human possesses. This also measures the level of an Advent Human’s Sprint. It is also a measure, of sorts, of the dexterity a human has, which allows them to move with cat-like grace. This is considered almost essential for a human fighting against naturally spiritually enhanced creatures.
Advent – This measures the ability of an Advent Human to control and manipulate their Reiatsu. This is the primary part of using and mastering an Advent Human’s powers, and measures the degree to which they can control them. This is considered a bit of a specialty and can take away from a user’s ability to master close combat. This doesn’t necessarily measure the volume of a person’s Reiatsu, but rather measures how well they can use it through the form of an Advent Power.
