The Masked Army
The Vaizard are a unique species in the world of the dead. Vaizards are, in the simplest of terms, Shinigami who put on Hollow Masks in order to gain more power. The root of the Vaizards is as unknown as the roots of the first archaic Arrancars, and the lore of the Vaizards, banned and burned in the Soul Society, speaks of ancient failures at mastering the process of bonding Death God and Hollow, resulting in twisted creations of mindless, Half-hollow warriors, or psychotic men prone to fits of endless rage. Throughout history, the ruling council of the Shinigami, the Central Forty-Six, has dealt with these abominations harshly. Vaizards have been, without fail, declared monstrosities and wiped out at every emergence into Soul Society. The guiding philosophy has always been, in the words of a famous captain of ages past, “The Gotei 13 are an elite organization. Once a person has qualified to be a member, incompatibility and nonconformance are impermissible.”
Once, in the past, the Vaizards, lead by an ex-captain Shinigami who assumed the role of Commander in the Masked Army, rose up against the Soul Society for past injustices and sought to strike into the heart of the Gotei 13 in a war that lasted for years. This man’s name was Kyoubou Gi, once the Captain of the Seventh Division. With his help, the Senkai Gate was shut down, allowing hollows to rampage the real world without Shinigami to defend them. In co-ordination with the then-captain of the Ninth Divison, Shoushoku Senden, the Vaizard then waged a propaganda campaign, protecting the human world themselves and cutting the Shinigami off from all access, converting both the already opposed Quincy and Advent Humans against the Shinigami. The rebellion was crushed brutally, however, and the Soul Society forever decreed all Vaizards as criminals, regardless of circumstance. Though the ruling remains to this day, there hasn’t been a single reported case of Hollowfication, even unsuccessful, in the last four hundred years.
That time, however, is ending… Very soon, the Masked Army will rise again.
The Hollow Within
Vaizards are different from normal Shinigami. No normal Shinigami can truly understand what it is like to undergo Hollowfication, to fight and control the Hollow Within. All Vaizards are cursed with an internal hollow, one that is the negative and the opposite of their Shinigami powers, that seeks to gain control and dominance. Those who lose to their internal hollow often dissolve into Hollow-like beasts, usually losing their Zanpaktou. There is great power in surrendering to the Hollow, there is no doubt there. But the personality, the mind, dissolves in the process. The only way to remain as the dominant spirit is to subjugate the inner Hollow, thus wresting control of the Mask from the Hollow, who by contrast tries to rest control of the Zanpaktou from the Vaizard.
The process of mastering the Hollow within is incredibly destructive, as it involves letting the Inner Hollow take control of the body complete and begin the process of transforming it into a pure Hollow while the Vaizard delves into the inner world to defeat the Hollow on a personal level, taking control of the body and the mind for themselves. This grants them control of The Mask, and is referred to simply and reverently as The Battle. A Vaizard gets once chance at this, and one chance only. Failure only results in death or loss of individuality. Once the Mask is under the control of the Vaizard, they can call it at any time by condensing reiatsu over their face, forming the mask. This allows the user to utilize hollow skills, as well as greatly enhances their ability. A Vaizard with his zanpaktou released and Hollow Mask on is a fearsome force, even greater than Bankai-level Shinigami and released Arrancar of a similar rank. As the user grows stronger, they can further subjugate the inner Hollow, holding on the Mask for longer amounts of time and increasing its strength.
The pinnacle of strength for a Vaizard is perfect union with their inner selves. Certain Vaizards lean more towards their Shinigami powers or their inner Hollow Powers. Those who lean towards the power of a Shinigami may obtain a Bankai release, mastering the way of the sword and thus dedicating their energy to life. Alternatively, that Vaizard who leans towards the power of Death can obtain a Resurrección, giving themselves over to the Mask and succumbing their life-force into death.
Obtaining A Vaizard
Players do not begin as a Vaizard; any player wishing to become a Vaizard must first apply for a Shinigami character. Then, at Rank Nine, the turn before a Vaizard would obtain their Hollow Mask, the player may make a new application, transforming their character into a Vaizard, adding in the needed sections if the Admin approves.
